About Yoda Yoga™
A program that introduces yoga to children in schools
The Yoda Yoga Program offers 8 week modular programs based on a 20 minute class period. Depending on the schedule of the school, eight to nine classes can be accommodated in a morning session and another six to seven in an afternoon session.
Each eight week module is unique and offers new and/or updated components, i.e. new warm-up and breathing exercise, a new narrative story, as well as the pose of the week and body awareness Colouring. Note that based on the recommendations from the teachers, chapter stories that offer more variation for the children will be utilized, with the same poses.
Note the junior and senior kindergarten classes require a longer period because they benefit from spending more time in each segment. We would recommend that these classes utilize a 40 minute period per class.
In order to fulfill the needs of a specific school, Yoda Yoga instructors meet with the teachers and principal and provide a schedule that best suits their unique requirements. Pricing available on request.
Note that the Innovative Fund offered by the TDSB can assist the financing for this type of project.

An eight week pilot Yoda Yoga program was implemented at George P. Mackie School in Scarborough (Toronto, Ontario), during the winter of 2006.
Here is feedback from teachers:
" I think the program is perfect for my class. There has been a huge improvement in their ability to take this seriously and give a genuine effort. I did do some stretching recently when I had the class sitting on the carpet for a long time. (we did the Eagle pose!). They were great, quiet, and making a serious effort, even without you here. I was deeply impressed."
— Anne Stockton (grade 3)
"Kids looked forward to it and liked the story.
I felt the story made it fun for them and helped them remember the poses. Good for my relaxation and good for daily stretch phys ed for the students."
— T. Bilecki (grade 2)
"It's been a great warm-up for the class before they have phys ed on Fridays."
— Neil Ramjag (grade 1)
"I found that most of the students enjoyed the program and the presenters were knowledgeable and professional."
— Mr. Taggart (grade 6)
After 8 weeks, the teachers observed a general improvement in Focus, Flexibility, Breath Awareness and Body Awareness. Some also observed improvements in Focus and Concentration.
